Mbaco Inspired
Umbhaco (often referred to as mbaco) is the traditional attire of the Xhosa-speaking people of South Africa. Made from durable, heavy-weight cotton, these garments are heavily decorated with striking geometric patterns and intricate beadwork. They are worn during important cultural ceremonies, weddings, and traditional events
A traditional umbhaco outfit is usually styled with the following components and accessories:
- The Dress/Skirt: Umbhaco usually features a long, high-waisted wraparound skirt or a full dress.
- The Beaded Collar and Cape: A layered or lacy beaded collar is often worn around the neck, combined with a matching beaded inxwebe (cape or shawl) draped over the shoulders.
- The Headwrap (Doek): A matching headwrap is tied elegantly on the head, often adorned with additional beads or embroidery.
- The Apron: Traditionally, married women will wear a decorative beaded apron over the skirt
